There’s a version of wedding planning where you nail the big stuff, the venue, the florals, the dress, and then run out of steam before you get to the details. It happens all the time, but the details are almost always what guests remember most. Here are five that tend to get overlooked.

Guest Tokens: Not every wedding needs a favor, but when it’s the right one, it becomes part of the whole experience. Custom bandanas, matches, tote bags, candles, bottle openers, koozies, dog favors, something small and intentional that feels like it actually belongs at your wedding. Guests take these home. They use them. They remember where they got them.

Menus: Every single guest at your reception will pick up a menu. It sits on the table in front of them for hours. It’s one of the most-touched pieces of paper at the entire wedding, and it’s one of the most commonly treated as an afterthought. A well-designed menu that actually matches your invitation suite + wedding brand changes the whole feel of the table.

Texture: This one is harder to put into words, but easy to feel. The difference between a linen tablecloth and a cheap one. A pattern that adds depth versus a solid that falls flat. A menu printed on thick cotton paper versus standard cardstock. Texture is what makes a wedding feel expensive and adds more detail to your special day.

Invitation Embellishments: The invitation is the first impression of your wedding, and a small addition makes a bigger impact than most people expect. A wax seal. A vintage stamp. A ribbon or a belly band. A vellum wrap. None of these are major investments, but all of them elevate the whole suite from pretty to memorable.

A Cohesive Brand: This is the one most couples don’t think about until it’s too late. Are your fonts consistent across every piece? Does your welcome sign match your menus, and do your place cards match? Did you establish a monogram early enough to use it throughout? When everything ties together visually, it feels intentional; when it doesn’t, guests notice even if they can’t pinpoint why.

This is exactly what I help my couples think through from the very beginning! If you’re in the planning stages and want to make sure nothing gets overlooked, I’d love to chat.
